First Grade
Welcome to student life!
They're engaged and mystified by the power of reading and what it unlocks. Grins and discovery are everywhere and it's time to get out into the community, armed with skills and curiosity. The tooth fairy comes often toward the end of the year! They dress up as characters and dramatize the stories they read. Puppets abound. The school's fine arts program (Spectra) is one of the happiest ways to express enthusiasm and emerging skills. Classic stories about change and the passing of time support their study of "Then and Now" along with personal timelines and letters they write to elderly relatives or community friends. A highlight of the year is Winter Performance, where choral music and dance give them a chance to shine.
