Seventh grade

Meeting the challenges and balancing school, friends, and activities

Seventh grade students are solid class members of the middle school who have the strategies and structures of these grades well in hand. They are closely watching the eighth graders knowing that they, too, will be taking exams and filling out applications for high school the next year. Strong role models and friends in a small community are ideal preparation to further these students’ education. Science and math are powerful cores for independent and critical thinking. Application of skills in comprehensive projects such as building racing cars and engines give real life status to classroom learning. Students continue to explore learning in their community through field trips, service, and special projects. “History” centers on civilizations from the fall of the Roman Empire through the Enlightenment in the West and features simultaneous events in Africa and Asia. Concepts of world economics and current events bring real life issues to their thinking. Seventh graders are excellent debaters who know how to research their topic and compete strongly in the Claremont Colleges debate outreach program in southern California. Composition and writing have purpose and application in their real lives making English skills classes a welcome place to hone skills for editing and publishing. They are dancers, they are singers, they are competitive swimmers, and they are entering an exciting new world.
